[TRIBE019] DJ Micks feat. Robin Latimore – First To Say Goodbye [Tribe Records]

Tribe Records are proud to present a new producer hailing from South Africa, DJ Micks, for his first release featuring the amazing vocal talent that is Robin Latimore from Atlanta.Dj Micks was born in Pietermaritzburg South Africa. He first fell in love with house music after listening to a compilation from one of South Africa’s legends DJ Oskido. Still at school he sort about getting into production first by playing around on his mothers PC using Fruity Loops to create various bootlegs of old soul records.

In late 2009 Micks came across an acapella of the classic Gladys Knight track ‘First To Say Goodbye’, he recalls ‘she was singing about what I was going through at the time and I felt an instant connection with the song and decided to create a simple hypnotic beat under the vocal. Being a huge fan of Manoo, Culoe De Song and Rocco, Micks embarked upon doing versions inspired by each producer. All three mixes were finished in one night and posted on Facebook to share with his fellow friends. A month later, more than 500 people had downloaded the single. Oskido heard the track and immediately put it on his Hot 99 show on the biggest radio station in Gauteng (YFM), eventually making it to the number 1 spot and the rest they say is history!

Tribe has long been a big supporter of the track and given the reaction and response from those on the dance floor it became clear that ‘First to Say Goodbye’ was too big a song to remain a bootleg. Tribe creative head Zepherin Saint set out on a mission to find the right vocalist to pay homage to Gladys Knight, this was no easy task but he felt there was only one place that could produce such a voice, the birth place of Ms Knight herself Atlanta, Georgia. Having strong musical connections in Atlanta quickly led Zepherin Saint to very a special lady who could indeed take up the challenge – enter Ms Robin Latimore a prominent jazz vocalist who has shared the stage with jazz greats such as Ronnie Laws and Jeff Lorber. Robin stepped up to the microphone and nailed the song in one take.

‘First to Say Goodbye’ is set to make big waves this summer with new mixes from Rocco and in a few weeks time we will be releasing the Charles Webster versions aswell which have both been going down in a big way in South Africa. Both big fans of the original, they were excited to come and share their musical talents on this classic vocal.

Rick ‘the Godson’ Wilhite – Analog Aquarium [Still Music]

http://www.traxsource.com/index.php?act=show&fc=tpage&cr=titles&cv=87528&alias=new_rel
Still Music is proud to present Analog Aquariumand#8221;, the debut album by legendary Detroit house producer Rick The Godsonand#8221; Wilhite. Rick is a longtime member of Detroit’s dance music scene, dating back to his time working at Buy Rite records, one of the epicenters of Detroit’s 1980’s techno music explosion. More recently, his own record shop Vibes New and Rare Music has achieved revered status amongst those in the know, acting as the heart and soul of deep dance music in the city. Rick is also responsible for throwing countless parties in Detroit, helping to develop the house sound that the city is known for, and to build connections to DJs from other cities like Chicago that have proved invaluable over the years. His love for music and records has led to a DJing career that has spanned many genres, though it is his take on deep house music that has led him to international acclaim. Drawing from Detroit’s history of soul, jazz, disco, house, and techno, Rick’s productions weave these sometimes disparate elements into a beautiful, cohesive whole that remains distinctly his own, just as he does with the records he plays in his DJ sets. Working with Theo Parrish, Keny Dixon Jr., and Malik Pittman on the 3 Chairs project has grown Rick’s reputation even greater. With many classic 12and#8221; releases under his own name that have been absolutely beaten to death by DJs worldwide, it is now time for Rick to leave his mark on a wider audience with his debut solo album. While it is undoubtedly HIS album, Analog Aquariumand#8221; allows Rick to explore all sides of his musical abilities with the assistance of some of his most trusted allies. The record kicks off with a hot, jazzy vocal track in collaboration with Osunlade, Theo Parrish, and Billy Love, the Jacksons’ referencing Blame It On The Boogieand#8221;. While this tune conjures up images of the California sun, the next cut, Dark Walkingand#8221;, sees Rick team up with fellow 3 Chair Malik Pittman to explore the deep, nasty underbelly of the 313 with menacing synth bass and warm jazz chords. The two part jam Muzic Gonna Save The Worldand#8221; is a loose, stomping string-heavy romp, bringing to mind Pharoah Sanders if the synthesizer and sampler had been his instruments of choice. Sunshine Pt. 2and#8221; starts off pleasant enough with rolling percussion and Rick’s own voice intoning, Sunshineand#8221;, but those vibes are soon belied by the ominous strings and bells that transform the track entirely. One of the tracks from Rick’s first outing on Still Music is revisited on City Bar Opening (Basement Mix)and#8221;, taking the already raw feeling to an even higher level. Deep Horizonsand#8221; begins with frenetic percussion that is eventually whittled down to a soulful groove before building the intensity back up. Rick’s famous late-night sampled grooves reappear on In The Rainand#8221;, with Billy Love vibing up the place with his heart-felt vocals. On Cosmic Jungleand#8221; and Cosmic Soupand#8221;, Rick explores outer and inner space with tripped-out sci-fi effects but without sacrificing the soul that makes his productions so personal. All in all, a fitting full-length for such a diverse musician. Still Music is based in Chicago, IL, and is the brainchild of Jerome Derradji. Now in its seventh year, Still Music has been instrumental in the worldwide proliferation of some of America’s freshest underground dance music. From raw disco to beautiful, refined techno, and stopping at every tempo and mood between and beyond, Still Music and its sublabels Past Due and Love For Music (also known as Stilove4music) have found room to include artists both established and new, releasing what can only be described as GOOD music.Dj Feedbacksounds really nice!Frank / Ame / Innervisions wowee !…love it…..all top quality traxx as ever from rick…full support club/radio is guaranteed.Charles Webster Played and charted by Deetron! [TRIBE017] Alpha & Olmega featuring Sheyi The African Drummer (Fabio Genito, Zepherin Saint & Trinidadian Deep Remixes) [Tribe Records]

http://www.traxsource.com/index.php?act=show&fc=tpage&cr=titles&cv=85313
Our next release sees two of South African’s rising stars Alpha & Olmega teaming up with Sheyi who’s probably best know for his amazing percussion skills at our Tribe events…. ??Sheyi has recently made the transformation from percussionist to vocalist and along with Alpha & Olmega, has created a awesome piece of energetic afro house that we’re sure will be in your CD wallets for months to come! ??

Alpha & Olmega (Xolani Dlamini & Vusimuzi Chirwa) hail from the dusty streets of Soweto, South Africa. From a young age, these talented individuals knew they had music in their blood discovering their producing skills while playing around with their computer in one of their friends bedrooms, where locals would come and perform with instruments and percussion and their enthusiasm for house music grew from there.

Last year, Alpha & Olmega decided to bring their talents to the world, armed with nothing more than a hard drive filled with beats and a heart full of dreams, they immersed themselves in the city’s club culture. Their first big release which also featured Sheyi on vocals ‘Islandiwana’ was picked up by Nulu Records in the US and now there is a big anticipation for their follow up release.

Sheyi’s take on the project…

‘The African drummer’ ensemble has its origins in the Royal Kraal’s of Soweto and Oba’s Palaces of the old Yoruba Kingdoms. Drum and Dance…. the order of the day… till day break!

…Whilst the ancestral Percussive drums would announce the dance entourage within the various mixes.. to culminate in the vocal message of Zepherin Saint’s mix which emphasizes our ‘Dance and Love’ culture in these beloved modern times…’

The package includes remixes from Italy’s main man Fabio Genito, Toronto’s Trinidadian Deep and our very own Zepherin Saint. ?This one is sure to ‘make them dance!
