Richy Pitch recorded and produced the Afrobeat song “Dey Suffer” in Accra, Ghana. The beautiful words & vocals come from Yasmeen, daughter of the legendary West African producer Faisal Helwani (Hedzolleh & Bunzu Sounds). The song “Dey Suffer” describes the emigration out of Africa which has created a ‘brain drain’, with qualified people leaving for wealthier pastures. As Yasmeen explains: – ‘Africans love their motherland, but she’s suffering so we all leave to find better fortune elsewhere’.
This release features remixes from DJ Karizma, DJ Vadim and Richy Pitch!
There’s no holding back at Groove Odyssey towers, as we get ready to drop another bomb from Chicago house legend Dajae. Following on from her debut Groove Odyssey release ‘Dreams’ back in 2008, this hot new single entitled ‘Don’t you want my love’ is more than ready to damage your dance floor. With the foundations of old Chicago rhythms, smooth melodies, rolling drums and a top vocal performance from Dajae, it’s one not to be missed, a true classic joint, one spin and you’ll be hooked. Julio Bashmore blesses the aptly titled FutureBoogie Recordings with their first release, the sweetened House swinger ‘Father Father’ featuring Javeon McCarthy. Leading on from his ‘Everyone Needs A Theme Tune’ anthem, it sticks with the more sultry pacing and Deeply Housed vibe, where tickled hi-hats gasp over batty pattin’ Chicago kicks and plangent cowbells while the bassline ties itself in slippery knots and Javeon’s vocal lifts your soul in fine style. Flipside, the sumptuous ‘Craboon’ can’t decide whether it’s 4/4 House or R&B, and is all the better for it. Matching Girl Unit’s dextrous triplet-to-4/4 programming, he finds a ideal sweet spot between 808-driven House and R&B which feels so right it almost hurts, but then kisses the pain away with floating pads and tenderly effervescent texturing. There’s an instrumental mix of ‘Father father’ too, making this one highly recommended release!
We welcome back NYs Brian Coxx with the long awaited second Soulgasm Sessions. Once more three titles are up for grabs; the slinky instrumental Sunrise hits the soul-tech spot dead on, with a little Eastern flavour thrown in for good measure, while the melodic, piano driven The Truth takes care of the spoken word section. Vocal workout Nothing More helms the release in two versions, a straight Dub and Main Mix, JaQuita supplying the song over a set of tense keys.
