Phil Weeks and Robsoul Rec. release the second remix package from the recent Love Affair LP, with Phil Asher taking control on new versions of In The Mood. Weeks original version was regarded as one of his albums standout tracks, crafted on no more than an MPC3000 sampler, and is included here. House veteran Asher, also known as part of the Restless Soul production team and record label, chops and splices the originals elements over a driving club-focused groove on three separate versions. House veteran Asher, also known as part of the Restless Soul production team and record label, chops and splices the originals elements over a driving club-focused groove on three separate versions. As with all of Robsouls output, In The Mood will be released on vinyl and digital formats. The release is part of a series of five remix EPs of Love Affair album tracks. Future installments will include new versions by Robsoul favourites DJ Sneak, Hector Moralez, DJ W!LD, DJulz, Dan Ghenacia and Chris Carrier, alongside label debutants Inland Knights, Dyed Soundorom and Gramophonedzie. The first EP (All Day Every Day ROBSOUL97) is due for imminent release with Joss Moog, Chris Simmonds and Sonny Fodera on remix duties. Phil Asher is a highly regarded player in the world of house music, and much further afield. Averse to being labeled musically (Dont ask me what I play, I hate pigeonholing?¦jazz, latin, all the classics, a bit of disco and funk, cutting-edge house music?¦I play music from every category as long as its good: Quality timeless music, with big production.) he has excelled across a range of genres and styles producing approximately 100 original works and countless remixes. He works with Luke McCarthy as the Restless Soul production team, which also incorporates producers Modaji (Laws of Motion Records) Taxi Driver (Estereo Records) and Roy the Roach, and runs a record label under the same name. He also produces under various aliases including Basic Soul and Electric Soul with Luke McCarthy, Woolph, Phoojun (alongside Nathan Haines), and 12-bit Rephugees with Mark de Clive-Lowe.
This latest Lovebirds EP on Winding Road Records is another absolute masterpiece of chilled house soul and deep rave. A really excellent package, and a must-have release for all Lovebirds fans. On the lead track, Want You In My Soul, Lovebirds teams up with vocalist Stee Downes, of Sonar Kollektiv fame. His collaboration with Lovebirds for Winding Road starts off in lush sweet ambience but builds steadily into a driving vocal deephouse bomb that will rock your world. Hot Toddy’s remix of Want You In My Soul is a chrome-plated disco dimension to the track by Crazy P man Chris Todd. It was licensed to Tensnake’s In the House’ compilation long before the remix even saw the light of day. Funk-infested, hot stuff indeed. As if that wasn’t enough, there’s also the dirty tech of ‘Give Me A Dubf*ck’, a menacing dose of dark rave that is guaranteed to cause some serious explosions on the harder floors. Tracks exclusive to the digital release are the instrumental and reprise versions of Want You In My Soul, both of which are valuable treasures worth keeping in a secret place!
Release number 014 sees Master-H once again team up with Alice Orpheus. Having already impressed with their previous production, 2010’s “Out Of This Life Take 1”, the pair again serve up a slice of deliciously avant-garde vocal deepness. Alice’s skills, as a Professor of Jazz Composition, are as equally employed as his vocal talent and together with the undisputed studio skills of Master-H, the pair have created a masterpiece.Exclusive are rapidly running out of superlatives to describe the work of Komplex de Deep and its label chief, Master-H. The label’s wonderfully varied and exotic releases have ranged from the beautiful down-tempo tones of Alice Orpheus, the creative genius of Christian Prommer, to the driving house flavours of Francois Dubois. Release number 014 sees Master-H once again team up with Alice Orpheus. Having already impressed with their previous production, 2010’s “Out Of This Life Take 1”, the pair again serve up a slice of deliciously avant-garde vocal deepness. Alice’s skills, as a Professor of Jazz Composition, are as equally employed as his vocal talent and together with the undisputed studio skills of Master-H, the pair have created a masterpiece. “I Am A Drifter Who Can’t Let Go” finds Alice’s vocals soothing the broken beats and crisp percussion, all played live by H. As with previous Master-H releases, the French producer backs his original with a Dub mix. The “Moody Dub”, whilst making use of the original’s percussive elements, treads a tougher path, eagerly encouraged by the addition of a powerful, acidic synth melody. To remix the original is a daunting task indeed, and accepting the job are a duo who themselves run a label that exudes quality. Dairmount & Berardi, the heads of Room With A View, are currently riding the wave of support for their fantastic rework of Jimpster’s “Alsace & Lorraine” (Freerange) and provide not one, but two remixes of “I Am Drifter Who Can’t Let Go.” Their ‘Downtime Perspective’ bathes us in its melodic synth waves, whereas their ‘Peaktime Perspective’ comes with the kickdrum and Detroit’esq synths.

With the Masters At Work name under contract elsewhere, Kenny and Louie had little choice but to work under other names. Hardrive became the most popular, largely thanks to the iconic ‘Deep Inside’, a vocal hook and bass line stomper that helped launch the record its vocal had come from, Barbara Tucker’s ‘Beautiful People. The rest of the EP, which features Kenny?s disco loop groove ‘Jus’ Believe’ and a joint effort with Chicago’s Maurice Joshua, ain’t too shabby either.
The latest instalment in the well established creative partnership between Copyright and Shovell manifests itself as Kalinda, a drum heavy tribal workout with a twist. Shovells inimitable chants are present throughout, as is the meticulous attention to details of the percussive elements, while the twist comes from a simple, dirty lead synth that breathes further life into an already throbbing beat.

Surround Sounds have been quietly building a rep with several strong selling releases from The Revenge, Hot Toddy and Joey Negro. Next up is “Break My Heart” featuring the vocals of Seattle based Neo soul star Choklate.
The chunky mid tempo backing track to “Break My Heart” cheekily recreates the squelchy keyboard riff from the Wham classic “Everything She Wants”, which obviously gives some instant familiarity but “Break…” adds a completely new song featuring Choklate’s delightful vocal harmonies. The Extended Mix keeps the soulful vibe fully in tact while the Special Dubbb makes use of a heavyweight bassline and other key riffs for version that builds and drops beautifully to end with a vocal climax.
For a more instantly playable peak time dance floor version head for the Kola Kube NY House Mix. A trendy proto house drum groove complete with echoing handclaps sits beneath classic boogie synths and an ultra catchy bassline. That Wham riff is teased in and when it finally drops it drops its quite a moment – and likely to get the odd hand in the air this summer. Think of an unreleased Shep Pettibone dub of Wham or even Tensnake and you get the idea.
Last up are hot Berlin based production duo Session Victim. The guys are on a roll with releases like their excellent Million Dollar Feeling on Delusions of Grandeur last year. For their mix the musical direction is pure underground house with warm chords and Detroit style bass. Sure to appeal to fans of the more musical end of deep house.
